About the Journal

The Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine (MJPHM) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Malaysian Public Health Specialists Association. Established to serve as a platform for the dissemination of public health research relevant to Malaysia and the broader Southeast Asian region, MJPHM publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports, and short communications spanning the full spectrum of public health disciplines.

The journal covers epidemiology, communicable and non-communicable diseases, environmental and occupational health, health services research, health promotion, maternal and child health, nutrition, and health policy. MJPHM is indexed in multiple bibliographic databases and is recognised by the Malaysian Citation Centre as a credible academic publication.

Scope and Mission

MJPHM aims to advance public health knowledge and practice in Malaysia through the publication of rigorous, ethically conducted research. The journal particularly encourages submissions that address public health challenges specific to the Malaysian context, including tropical and infectious diseases, the epidemiological transition toward chronic non-communicable diseases, healthcare delivery in a multi-ethnic society, and the environmental determinants of health in a rapidly developing economy.

The journal has published research on topics as diverse as the health impacts of haze episodes in Southeast Asia, tuberculosis control programmes, diabetes self-management, maternal health outcomes, occupational safety, and traditional medicine practices. Its readership includes public health practitioners, clinicians, academics, policymakers, and postgraduate students engaged in health-related research and practice.

Publication History

MJPHM has published continuously since its founding, with volumes spanning from the early 2000s to the present. The journal issues regular volumes as well as special supplements, often in conjunction with national or international public health conferences held in Malaysia. These supplement issues have addressed focused themes such as occupational health, environmental epidemiology, and health systems strengthening.

The journal operates under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence, supporting open access to public health research.
