Editorial policy and ethics

How we ensure the information on MJPHM is accurate, fair, and trustworthy — and what we do when we get something wrong.

Last updated: March 2026

Our editorial commitment

MJPHM publishes health information that people use to make decisions about their wellbeing. That places a significant responsibility on everything we publish. This page describes the principles, policies, and processes we follow to meet that responsibility.

We hold ourselves to the same ethical standards expected of medical and health publications worldwide, adapted for a health information platform that serves a general audience rather than an academic one.

Core principles

Accuracy above all

Every factual claim we publish must be supported by credible evidence. We source from peer-reviewed medical journals, official health authority guidelines (WHO, MOH Malaysia, CDC), and published clinical data. Health claims that cannot be verified are not published.

Honesty about uncertainty

Medical science does not have all the answers. When evidence is limited, conflicting, or evolving, we say so clearly rather than presenting incomplete information as settled fact. Our readers deserve to know the strength of the evidence behind every claim.

Independence from commercial interests

Our editorial decisions are never influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or commercial partners. We do not accept payment to feature, recommend, or promote any health product, service, treatment, or provider. Content that contains any commercial relationship is clearly disclosed.

Fairness and balance

We present health information in a balanced manner. Where legitimate differences of opinion exist within the medical community, we represent those perspectives fairly. We do not advocate for a single treatment approach when the evidence supports multiple options.

Respect for our readers

We write for intelligent adults who want to understand their health. We simplify complex topics without being condescending, and we avoid using fear or sensationalism to drive engagement. Our readers are partners in their own health decisions, not passive recipients of advice.

Editorial review process

Every article published on MJPHM goes through the following process before it reaches our readers.

Before publication

All articles undergo research verification, where key claims and statistics are checked against their original sources. Medical terminology is reviewed for accuracy. The article is assessed for balance, clarity, and readability. A final editorial review confirms the article meets our standards before it goes live.

After publication

Every article displays a publication date and a “last reviewed” date. We actively monitor published content against new research findings and updated health authority guidelines. Articles on rapidly evolving topics are reviewed within 30 days of significant new evidence. Articles on established health topics are reviewed on a routine six-month cycle.

Corrections policy

We are committed to getting things right — and to being transparent when we get something wrong.

Minor corrections

Typographical errors, broken links, and minor factual clarifications are corrected promptly without a formal notice. The “last reviewed” date is updated to reflect the change.

Significant corrections

If we discover that an article contains a material error — incorrect medical information, a misrepresented statistic, or guidance that could mislead readers — we correct it immediately and add a visible correction notice at the top of the article explaining what was changed and why.

Retractions

In rare cases where an article is found to be fundamentally flawed or based on sources that have been retracted, we remove the article and replace it with a notice explaining the retraction. We do not silently delete content.

If you believe any article on MJPHM contains an error, please contact us at editorial@mjphm.org.my. We take every report seriously and will investigate promptly.

Conflicts of interest

All authors and contributors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest when submitting content to MJPHM. This includes financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies, supplement manufacturers, healthcare providers, or any entity that could benefit from the content being published.

Where a conflict of interest exists, it is disclosed clearly within the article. If a conflict is deemed too significant to maintain editorial credibility, the submission is declined.

MJPHM’s editorial team does not hold financial interests in any health product, service, or treatment that we cover.

Content we do not publish

To protect our readers, MJPHM does not publish content that promotes unproven treatments as cures or miracle remedies, makes health claims not supported by peer-reviewed evidence, is designed primarily to sell a product or service, targets vulnerable populations with misleading health information, presents personal opinion or anecdote as medical fact, or contains plagiarised material from any source.

Advertising and sponsorship

If MJPHM carries advertising in the future, it will be clearly separated from editorial content. Advertising will never influence what we publish or how we cover health topics. Sponsored content, if ever accepted, will be clearly labelled and held to the same factual accuracy standards as all other content on the site.

Copyright and licensing

Original articles published on MJPHM are the intellectual property of their respective authors. Authors grant MJPHM a non-exclusive licence to publish and distribute their work on our platform. All content is made freely available to readers without charge.

Content from our research archive was originally published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) and remains freely accessible under those terms.
